Gorgas Memorial Library Frequently Asked Questions
  top

How can I access the full-text of an article?
A: Search the article title in GML OneSearch globe4.gif. If the article appears in a journal that GML has licensed or is freely available online, the article will be labeled “Available online” in green and the “View online” tab will appear in the citation. For some journal titles, you may be required to sign in to Athens in order to access the full-text of the article.

What is Athens?
A: As much as feasible, the Gorgas Memorial Library aims to provide seamless access (by IP recognition) to electronic resources. However, because of MRMC licensing restrictions and to permit off-site use of electronic content, we sometimes must require that users sign in to an authentication site called Athens which controls access to online resources.

Register for an Athens account at https://register.athensams.net/uam globe4.gif to have full access to the resources available via the MRMC E-Portal globe4.gif. Once you have an account or if you already have an account, we recommend you logon to Athens at https://auth.athensams.net/?ath_returl=%2Fmy%2F&ath_dspid=ATHENS.MY globe4.gif prior to doing any literature searching, so that authentication is already taken care of and will not interrupt access to electronic content.

How do I access the library's electronic resources when I am off site?
A: Whether at home or on the road, laptop or desktop, you can now use many (unfortunately, not all) GML Library journals and databases --all you need is your Athens login and password. Access Athens at https://auth.athensams.net globe4.gif.
